Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, has determined the main areas in which his squad has to improve following Wednesday’s 3-1 Carabao Cup loss to West Ham United at the London Stadium.

Arteta was present when Mohammed Kudus, Jarrod Bowen, Ben Whites (own goal), and West Ham eliminated Arsenal from the Carabao Cup.

Against David Moyes’ team, the former assistant manager of Manchester City did not start players like Declan Rice and William Saliba.

In response to a question about whether the absence of Saliba and Rice significantly affected Arsenal’s lack of physicality, Arteta said the following to reporters during his post-match news conference:

“Obviously there are different players that bring something different to the table but it’s not about that, it is about a lot of simple things that we didn’t do well at all today.

“Some of them were competing, some were duels, 50-50s, but we had a lot of giveaways we have in areas that we didn’t allow us in any moment to be a threat in the final third and that’s something we have to improve dramatically from today.”

This weekend, Arsenal will travel to Newcastle United to play in the Premier League.
