Former Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong will swear in to represent the Plateau South Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

According to information gathered by Naija News, Senate President Godswill Akpabio is set to formally swear in the former Minister of Labor and Employment on Wednesday during plenary.

Lalong also gave reporters from the State House assurances that, after seeing President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Tuesday, he would be back in the Senate on Wednesday.

Recall that Lalong formally left President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet on Tuesday after the Court of Appeal upheld his victory in the Abuja National Assembly poll.

Lalong’s Special Advisor on Media, Makut Simon Macham, reaffirmed Lalong’s decision to accept the Senate post and step down as a minister in a statement on Tuesday.

He revealed that Lalong sent a resignation letter to the President on Tuesday, December 19, 2023.

According to Macham, Lalong reminded President Tinubu in his letter that, after protracted legal proceedings, the Court of Appeal had declared him to be the senator lawfully representing the Plateau South Senatorial District and had directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue him the Certificate of Return.

He underlined that the decision to resign as a minister was not made lightly, acknowledging the faith and confidence President Bola Tinubu placed in him in his capacity as the Director General of the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Council, which contributed to the APC’s victory.

But after careful consideration, he made it clear that it was now more convenient for him to proceed and take up his position in the Red Chambers so that he could continue to support President Tinubu’s vision of “Renewed Hope.”
