Joel Matip has now been added to the lengthy list of injured players at Liverpool, according to manager Jurgen Klopp.

On Sunday, December 3, Joel Matip got the start in the Premier League match between Liverpool and Fulham at Anfield.

After Ibrahima Konaté replaced the 32-year-old Cameroonian center back in the 69th minute, the player hobbled away.

The score was tied 2-2 between the two teams when manager Klopp made the decision to substitute injured Joel Matip. While he was away, Liverpool’s Wataru Endō and Trent Alexander-Arnold scored two more goals, and Fulham’s Bobby De Cordova-Reid scored one goal to make the final score 4–3.

After the game, Klopp confirmed that Joel Matip is injured but wasn’t able to confirm the nature of the injury. He said: “We don’t know how long yet, no scan yet. But it won’t be a short one”.

This implies that Joel Matip will not be available for the Cameroon national team at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, which gets underway in Ivory Coast on January 13.

The following Liverpool players are currently out due to injuries of varying severity: Thiago Alcântara, Stefan Bajčetić, Diogo Jota, goalkeeper Alisson, defender Robertson, and forward.

With 31 points from 14 games, Liverpool has moved up to the second position in the league table without the aforementioned players, subject to the result of the match between third-place Manchester City and fifth-place Tottenham Hotspur. With 32 points from 14 games, City will pass Liverpool for second place if they win.
