The Labor Party has called on party supporters across the country to stock their homes with essential items ahead of an indefinite strike proposed by unions.

DAILY POST reports that the Nigerian Labor Congress, NLC and Trade Union Congress, TUC, may shut down the country’s economy on October 3 to press their demands for better working conditions.

In a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh on Wednesday, the Labor Party leadership also declared its support for the proposed indefinite strike.

According to this party, President Bola Tinubu’s administration does not care about the difficulties being faced in the country after the removal of fuel subsidies.

The party lamented that the country’s economic realities have led to some parents unable to pay school fees for their children to drop out of school. Part of the statement read: “The party fully supports the resolution of the Nigerian Labor Congress, NLC and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, to embark on industrial action expected to commence input Tuesday, October 3.

“The Labor Party is surprised that the government claims to have eliminated subsidies on petroleum products and is now generating over N1 trillion per month, but is struggling to meet the needs of workers .

“Every day, Nigerians face harsh economic realities, where inflation rates are approaching 30%, a dollar sells for over 1,000 naira and per capita income has fallen price.

“Many families are withdrawing from schools due to rising tuition fees, while criminal activities are increasing.

“We believe that Nigerian workers have shown enough patience and understanding. We also use this medium to inform all our members and supporters to provide their homes with necessities, in anticipation of mass action that lasts until Victory is guaranteed. Do not retreat or surrender.”
